About this work:
Drawing inspiration from Willem de Kooning—renowned for his expressive brushstrokes—I extracted five colors from his work and applied them to industrial forms. Stripped of personal gesture, the colors remain “clean,” raising questions about the artist’s presence in the work and the role of personalization. Is opting out of the personal, in itself, a personal statement?
